Let's Sing!

Arizona

We were out in Arizona
On the painted desert ground
We had no place to call our home
And work would not be found
Started to California,
But our money it didn't last long
I want to be in Oklahoma
Be back in my own hometown
Yoda la he ah he ah he he he

A way out on the desert
Where water is hard to find
It's a hundred miles to XXXXXX
And the wind blows all the time
You will burn up in the daytime
Get your cold when the sun goes down
I want to be in Oklahoma
Be back in my own hometown
Yoda la he ah he ah he he he

Now you people in Oklahoma
If you ever come west
Have your pocket filled with money
And you better be well dressed
For if you whind up on the desert
You are gonna wish that you were dead
You will be longing for Oklahoma
And your good old feather bed
Yoda la he ah he ah he he he

Arizona - I Love You Arizona

I love you, Arizona
Your mountains, deserts and streams
The rise of Dos Cabezas*
And the outlaws I see in my dreams
I love you Arizona, Superstitions and all
The warmth you give at sunrise
Your sunsets put music in us all

Oo, Arizona; You're the magic in me

Oo, Arizona, You're the life-blood of me

I love you Arizona
Desert dust on the wind
The sage and cactus are blooming,
And the smell of the rain on your skin

Oo, Arizona; You're the magic in me
Oo, Arizona, You're the life-blood of me

Dos CabezasTwo Heads, mountain peaks in Cochise County, Arizona
The Arizona Legislature named Arizona, a song written and performed by Rex Allen, Jr. as an alternate state anthem (I Love You Arizona - Laws 1982, Chapter 1 (HB 2300) adopted by the 35th Legislature). Rex Allen Jr. and father Rex Allen, natives of Willcox, are known world-wide for their famous renditions of cowboy songs.

Beautiful Dreamer

Beautiful Dreamer, wake unto me,

Starlight and dewdrops are waiting for thee;

Sounds of the rude world heard in the day,

Lull'd by the moonlight have all passed away!

Beautiful dreamer, queen of my song,

List while I woo thee with soft melody;

Gone are the cares of life's busy throng

Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me!

Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me!

Beautiful dreamer, out on the sea,

Mermaids are chanting the wild Lorelei;

Over the stream let vapors are borne,

Waiting to fade at the bright coming morn.

Beautiful dreamer, beam on my heart,

E'en as the morn on the stream let and sea;

Then will all clouds of sorrow depart,

Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me!

Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me!

Throng – densely packed crowd of people

Lorelei – a siren of Germanic mythology whose singing on a rock in the Rhine lures sailors to shipwreck on the reefs.

Cantaré, Cantarás

Te daré cuanto puedo dar

sólo sé cantar y para ti es mi canto

Y mi voz junto a las demás

en la inmensidad se está escuchando

Chorus

Cantaré, cantarás

y esa luz al final del sendero

brillará como un sol

que ilumina al mundo entero.

Cada vez somos más

y si al fin nos damos la mano.

Siempre habrá un lugar

para todo ser humano.

I will sing, you will sing

And a song will bring us together

And our hopes and our prayers

We will make them last forever

Cantaré, cantarás

y esa luz al final del sendero

brillará como un sol

que ilumina al mundo entero.

Edelweiss

Edelweiss, edelweiss

Every morning you greet me

Small and white, clean and bright

You look happy to meet me

Blossom of snow, may you bloom and grow

Bloom and grow forever

Edelweiss, edelweiss

Bless my homeland forever

Edelweiss, edelweiss

Every morning you greet me

Small and white, clean and bright

You look happy to meet me

Blossom of snow, may you bloom and grow

Bloom and grow forever

Edelweiss, edelweiss

Bless my homeland forever

Edelweiss– a European mountain flower with unique white furry petals and green leaves. Edelweiss is widely used as a symbol of rugged individualism and exploring the wilderness due to its growth in the high altitudes of the Alps.

Grandma’s Feather Bed

When I was a little bitty boy just up off the floor
We used to go down to grandma's house every month end or so
We'd have chicken pie, country ham
Homemade butter on the bread
But the best darn thing about grandma's house
Was the great big feather bed

Chorus

It was nine feet high and six feet wide
And soft as a downy chick
It was made from the feathers of forty 'leven geese
Took a whole bolt of cloth for the tick

It could hold eight kids and four hound dogs
And a piggy we stole from the shed
We didn't get much sleep but we had a lot of fun
On grandma's feather bed

After supper we'd sit around the fire, the old folks'd spit and chew
Pa would talk about the farm and the war
And granny'd sing a ballad or two
And I'd sit and listen and watch the fire till the cobwebs filled my head
Next thing I'd know I'd wake up in the morning
In the middle of the old feather bed

Repeat Chorus

Well, I love my ma and I love my pa, I love granny and grandpa too
I've been fishin' with my uncles, I wrestled my cousin
I even kissed Aunt Lou, ew!
But if I ever had to make a choice I guess it oughta be said
That I'd trade them all plus the gal down the road
For grandma's feather bed
I'd trade them all plus the gal down the road

Repeat Chorus

We didn't get much sleep but we had a lot of fun
On grandma's feather bed

I Can Do All Things

Through my hills and valleys,

Every storm-tossed sea,

I can feel my Savior

So close to me.

He leads me forward

Through paths unknown,

And when my strength is gone, He heals my weary soul

And shows me who I could be.

He stays with me,

And I know

I can do all things.

When I’m sinking in the waves,

If I reach out for His grace,

He will rescue me.

I can do all things

With the Savior by my side.

I can climb to greater heights,

Find the strength I need.

I can do all things with Christ.

I can do all things with Christ.

I will cross that desert

Though it’s far and wide.

When I feel the hunger

And I hear the lies,

I will pray to heaven,

And the winds will cease.

With my Savior as my guide, I know that

I can do all things.

When I’m sinking in the waves,

If I reach out for His grace,

He will rescue me.

I can do all things

With the Savior by my side.

I can climb to greater heights,

Find the strength I need.

I can do all things with Christ.

I can do all things with Christ.

If I’m locked inside a prison cell, He breaks my chains.

When I’m laid into the grave, He rolls the stone away.

When I face my fears and follow Him with all my faith,

He gives me strength.

So I can do all things.

When I’m sinking in the waves,

If I reach out for His grace,

He will rescue me.

I can do all things

With the Savior by my side.

I can climb to greater heights,

Find the strength I need.

I can do all things with Christ.

I can do all things with Christ.

I can do all things with Christ.

Home on the Range

Oh give me a home where the buffalo roam

Where the deer and the antelope play

Where seldom is heard a discouraging word

And the skies are not cloudy all day

Chorus

Home, home on the range

Where the dear and the antelope play

Where seldom is heard a discouraging word

And the skies are not cloudy all day

Where the air is so pure and the zephyrs so free

And the breezes so balmy and light

That I would not exchange my home on the range

For all the cities so bright

Repeat Chorus

How often at night when the heavens are bright

With the light on the glittering stars

Have I stood there amazed and asked as I gaze

If their glory exceeds that of ours

Repeat Chorus

zephyr – a soft gentle breeze.

It Had to Be You

It had to be you

It had to be you

I wandered around, and I finally found

The somebody who

Could make me be true

Could make me be blue

And even be glad

Just to be sad - thinking of you

Some others I've seen

Might never be mean

Might never be cross, or try to be boss

But they wouldn't do

For nobody else gave me a thrill
With all your faults, I love you still
It had to be you
Wonderful you
It had to be you

Repeat All

My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean

My Bonnie lies over the ocean,

My Bonnie lies over the sea.

My Bonnie lies over the ocean,

Oh, bring back my Bonnie to me.

Chorus

Oh, bring back, oh bring back,

Oh, bring back my Bonnie to me, to me.

Bring back, oh bring back,

Oh bring back my Bonnie to me.

Last night as I lay on my pillow.

Last night as I lay on my bed.

Last night as I lay on my pillow,

I dreamt that my Bonnie was dead.

Repeat Chorus

Nearer, My God, to Thee

Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer to thee!
E’en though it be a cross
That raiseth me.
Still all my song shall be
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer to thee!

Though like the wanderer,
The sun gone down,
Darkness be over me,
My rest a stone,
Yet in my dreams I’d be
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer to thee!

There let the way appear,
Steps unto heav’n;
All that thou sendest me,
In mercy giv’n;
Angels to beckon me
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer to thee!

Doctrine and Covenants 88:63

Oh Shenandoah

Oh Shenandoah, I long to hear you.

Away, you rolling river.

Oh Shenandoah, I long to hear you.

Away, I’m bound away, across the wide Missouri.

Oh Shenandoah, I took a notion.

Away, you rolling river.

To sail across the stormy ocean.

Away, I’m bound away, across the wide Missouri.

Oh Shenandoah, I left your daughter.

Away, you rolling river.

For I have crossed the rolling water.

Away, I’m bound away, across the wide Missouri.

Oh Shenandoah, I’m bound to leave you.

Away, you rolling river.

Oh Shenandoah, I’ll not deceive you.

Away, I’m bound away, across the wide Missouri.

Across the wide Missouri .

Shenandoah – a river flowing northeast from northern Virginia to the Potomac at Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. About 200 miles long.

Missouri – the longest river in the United States. Rising in the Rocky Mountains in southwestern Montana, the Missouri flows east and south for 2,341 miles before entering the Mississippi River north of St. Louis, Missouri.

Ragtime Cowboy Joe

Chorus

He always sings

Raggedy music to the cattle as he swings

Back and forward in the saddle on a horse.

That syncopated gaited,

There is such a funny meter to the roar of his repeater.

How they run

When they hear the fellas commin’,

Cause the western folks all know.

He’s a high falutin’, rootin’, tootin’ son of a gun from Arizona, Ragtime Cowboy Joe.

Out in Arizona where the bad men are,

The only thing to guide you is the evening star.

The roughest, toughest man by far

Was Ragtime Cowboy Joe

He got his name from singing to the cows and sheep.

Ev’ry night they say he sang a herd to sleep

In a bass voice so rich and deep,

Crooning soft and low.

Repeat Chorus

Repeat Chorus Again (different tempo)

Ragtime Cowboy, talk about your cowboys.

Ragtime Cowboy Joe.

Repeater – a firearm which fires several shots without reloading.
Gaited – a gaited horse is a horse that moves each leg independently. Doing so allows one foot to constantly be on the group, allowing the horse to conserve more energy than they would while trotting.

Take Me Home, Country Roads

Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, growin' like a breeze

Chorus

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads

All my memories gather 'round her
Miner's lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye

Repeat Chorus

I hear her voice in the mornin' hour, she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
Drivin' down the road, I get a feelin'
That I should've been home yesterday, yesterday

Repeat Chorus

Repeat Chorus

Take me home, (down) country roads

Take me home, (down) country roads

This Little Light of Mine

Chorus

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine,

Let it shine, shine, shine, let it shine.

Everywhere I go, I’m gonna let it shine.

Everywhere I go, I’m gonna let it shine.

Everywhere I go, I’m gonna let it shine,

Let is shine, shine, shine, let is shine.

Repeat Chorus

All up in my house, I’m gonna let it shine.

All up in my house, I’m gonna let it shine.

All up in my house, I’m gonna let it shine,

Let it shine, shine, shine, let it shine.
